What is it that most cyclists really want out of their biking experience?

Whether you’re a bike trail regular, a devout roadie, or an avid mountain biker, you probably want to feel more comfortable on your bike, which will allow you to ride longer, faster and more efficiently.

It’s simple — how much you enjoy what you are doing depends greatly on how you feel while doing it. If you and your bike aren’t “getting along” so well you probably won’t continue to ride. If that is the case it may be time to consider a professional bike fit. It is some of the best money you can spend on your valuable two-wheeled investment and it will make a great difference in how you feel about your ride.

If you are one of our valued customers, or if you are just passing through our blog, the great news is that we now offer high-level professional bike fits. Bill and myself (Shawn) just spent the good part of a week in Boise, ID, learning the ins and outs of Wobblenaught Precision Bicycle Fitting (WN) – a system we believe to be the best out there.

There are countless theories and fitting systems out there, many with big names and results attached to them. What makes WN the best is simple – science. Like many systems, WN Precision takes measurements using the actual joints for precise analysis rather than dots or marks on your skin. Your skin moves around quite a bit, but the dimensions of your bones do not change. By taking precise measurements of the bike rider’s anatomy and obtaining the “real” bike geometry (full-suspension bikes change quite a bit under load), Wobblenaught’s software provides you with the best “range-of-motion” and best “line-of-pull” for your muscles to perform work on the powerful levers that are your bones. Put simply – Wobblenaught takes the intricate machine that is your body and makes it the most efficient, powerful, torque producing motor for your bicycle. And to top it all off – you will be incredibly comfortable and quiet from the waist up.

Oh and one more thing – WN fitters will spend time teaching you how to pedal most effectively from your new fit…that is the key. WN’s measurements put you in the best position to have the highest possible output but you still have to make your body take advantage of it. Trust me; the light bulb really comes on after you are taught how to pedal correctly – mainly because you are putting out so many more watts…

Did we pique your interest? Hopefully so! Ride On will begin performing fits in mid-February for $195. Call us with any questions you have or to schedule a fit now!

We’d love to hear from you! Ride On.

Bring on the Testimonial

Just got off the bike. Wow. The 50/34 was just what the doctor ordered. The south of Shreve on 319 was a breeze. Didn’t even think to check my heart rate at the top! Amazing what 3 more gears will do. This Caad 10 is sooooo light. And I love the sigma odometer. Thanks guys! RIDE ON BABY! –Eric

Recently, we presented donation checks to Wooster Community Hospital and the Pat Kracker Breast Cancer Fund for funds raised through the WooMan cycling tour in Ohio as well our Pink Ribbon Bagel campaign. In it’s second year, the WooMan has now raised nearly $22,000 towards raising breast cancer awareness in the mid-Ohio region.

The WooMan is a bicycle tour between Wooster and Mansfield consisting of 20, 50 and 100 mile routes. This year we had 180 riders turn out on a beautiful sunny September day. The tour itself is an emotional journey for many of the riders who raise pledges and ride in memory of loved ones lost to breast cancer or in honor of those who are survivors.

Thanks to the efforts of our Mansfield team lead by Clint Saiben and our Wooster team lead by Brett Martin who provided all of food and hospitality in the 50 mile distance between their cafes. Special thanks goes out to Chris LaPointe for setting up and managing the mid-point rest stop at The Winfield Bed & Breakfast and to Mark Cacchio for his overall direction and leadership of the event.

Our Wooster partner is Wooster Community Hospital (WCH) represented by Tricia James, Development Specialist at WCH and our Mansfield partner is the Pat Kracker Breast Cancer Fund (PKBC) lead by Dave Kracker who lost his first wife to breast cancer in 1996. We have been blessed with the efforts needed to plan and run the WooMan by a committee of volunteer members including Tricia James, Dave Kracker, Bill & Jackie Buckwalter from Ride On Bicycles in Wooster, Terry & Sheila White and Diane Hammett from Mid-Ohio Bikers (MOB) cycling club, along with the efforts of many others from MOB, WCH, PKBC and our own Panera Bread associates as well as Tricia James’ husband Peter who created our website, www.woomantour.org.

It has been a special honor working with these community partners towards affecting an important cause in the local region.

Thank you all and God Bless!

Bleak, cold, dreary darkness – those words bring two things to mind for me: spelunking, and wintertime in Ohio. Sadly, the long days of summer sunshine have left us with shorter days, early evenings and far less time to squeeze rides into busy schedules. For many, winter forces us down deep into our own dismal trainer caves for the season (hopefully you don’t need a headlamp or climbing gear to get there). There are, however, a few brave souls possessing the sheer determination to continue riding through late fall and winter. I do not consider myself one of these people yet, but I am slowly dabbling in the art of winter and night riding. One of the biggest assets to this little experiment of mine is the Light & Motion Urban 300 headlight.

Typically I will boast to you about how wonderful my Blackburn Flea headlight and taillight set are – and they really are great — but this time of year demands more of a rider and his equipment. It is not enough to just be seen as you narrowly escape dusk on the way home from your local club ride. If you want to keep logging miles, you need a light that will not only boldly declare your presence, but also allow you to dodge potholes with ease at a brisk pace. There are many lights that promise this, but they often come with a high price tag or lack quality. Thankfully, Light & Motion designed a superb light, and at a price that doesn’t break the piggy bank.

At $149.99 the Urban 300 delivers a powerful, nicely focused beam that floods the road in front of you. Unlike some lights on the market, Light & Motion went the extra mile to certify all their lights as “Lumen Tested” – a guarantee of lumen accuracy. You are really getting the 300 lumens advertised, and my experience with the Urban 300 backs that completely.

Speaking of my experience — in our area there is what we call an “Amish Night” club ride every Wednesday that starts up close to when Daylight Savings Time rears its ugly head and the sun suddenly starts disappearing before 6 P.M. With the Urban 300 I was able to ride confidently and comfortably in a pack cruising along at 20 mph through the hills and dales of amish country. At one point I even found myself fearlessly bombing down a nice hill at 40 mph to chase down another rider! I couldn’t have done any of it so comfortably without a trusty headlight.

You’ve heard enough about my thoughts on this fine light. Let’s cut to the chase and lay out all the cards. Here is a shortlist of its features:

– 300 lumen
– 112 grams
– Battery Life Indicator
– USB Charger
– Tool-less mount
– Helmet mount
– Great battery life
– 2 hrs/4 hrs/8 hrs/ and 24 hrs when flashing.

For $149.99 it’s hard to beat the value that Light & Motion is offering consumers. If you are a little more sensitive to the price, I’d urge you to consider the Urban 180 – it packs a similar punch at nearly half the price ($89.99), half the lumens, and without the helmet mount. Either way, if you are anything like me, wanting to stay out of the trainer cave as long as possible, consider Light & Motion. Their products pack a great punch per dollar spent.

If you are curious about the Urban 300 or 180 Ride On carries various Light & Motion products. Stop by to demo any of our products.

Comments or questions? Do you want to hear about my wonderful Flea light set?
Leave them below and one of us will respond quickly. We’d love to hear your thoughts.

–Shawn

Ode to Grandview

It was a sunny day in August
And the Ride On boys were primed
For the Grandview bicycle race
Ready to win the prize

When the opening gun sounded
The boys were in good shape
With Bill and Matt up front
Joining Todd and Eric in the 3/4 race.

The rain had dissipated
But had left a small residue
On the slippery city streets
It would prove our boy’s undo

The first lap was eventful
When the riders crested in view
Bill hit a slick patch and cratered
And his teammate, Todd, did too.

Sliding sideways on their hips
The boys refused to admit defeat
Bill replaced his chain and rode on
And Todd struggled to rejoin the heat

Todd clambered up the hill
With the pack in sight ahead
Inch by inch he gained on them
His competitive spirit it fed

Rounding the last lap
Was a sight to behold
With Todd again in the lead
Pacing the rest of the fold

It came down to three riders
Who were fighting for the prize
But once again the slick streets
Would be our boys demise

Around the final corner
Forcing the pace once more
Todd felt his bike disappear under him
And he bit the dust as before

Bruised, tired and battered
He watched as the pack flew by
He watched as his teammate, Matt
Took away first prize

But never one to give up
No matter what the outcome
Todd got back on his bike
His race was not yet done

He forged up the last hill
And crossed the finish line
Raised his hands in victory
A race conquered sublime

It’s not always the fastest
Nor the victor who gets the most applause
But the one who forges on ahead
Against the greatest odds.

It’s no secret that half the fun of cycling is sporting all the cool apparel available. Did you know you can look just as cool off the bike? Hincapie casual apparel, designed by George Hincapie, former longtime teammate of Lance Armstrong, has an awesome line of jeans. If you’re comfortable with a little Latin flair and something gently hugging your rear end all day, (enough so that you may butt dial your wife a few times a day) you’ll love his jeans.

I’ve tried a few of his jeans, from the very decorative pockets to the more rugged plain look, and I love the way they fit and feel. They’re 99% cotton with a touch of Lycra thrown in to allow for freedom of movement. They’re fashionably and comfortable low rise and straight legged. They offer double needle stitching for reinforcement and long wear. And they just plain look cool. Guaranteed – you’ll get comments from the opposite sex. Ask me about my recent elevator experience!

Stop in and check out the sample jeans and let us order you a pair for Christmas!
